Welcome to the heart of leadership within Flock of the Good Shepherd! As a Flock Leader and Host, you are stepping into a role that allows you to guide others in their faith journey, offering mentorship, encouragement, and spiritual guidance. Leadership in the Flock context goes beyond just organising groups—it’s about creating environments where individuals can grow closer to God and each other.
It’s more than just organising meetings—it's about shepherding a group of believers as they grow in their relationship with God and each other. As a Flock leader, you get to:
Being a Flock Leader means leading with compassion and commitment. Whether you are mentoring young children, guiding teenagers, or discipling young adults, you are shaping future leaders, one step at a time. As a leader in this ministry, you'll walk alongside your group, providing them with the spiritual care they need.
Why Hosting Matters
Hosting is a unique form of leadership. While you may not always be in the spotlight, as a host, you’ll be instrumental in setting the tone, atmosphere, and experience for the church’s events.
Your role helps create welcoming environments where people feel valued and connected. You’re a key part of making others feel at home and supporting the flow of events.
Don’t worry—leading a Flock doesn’t require a theology degree or years of experience. It just requires a willing heart, a love for people, and a passion for God. However, it is a responsibility that goes beyond just meeting weekly. As a Flock Leader, you’re called to:
➤ Facilitating conversations and spiritual growth. You’ll lead group discussions around the Word, helping group members apply Scripture to their daily lives, wrestle with questions of faith, and grow in understanding.
➤ Building community. A Flock is a place where members should feel safe to share, ask questions, and be vulnerable. You’ll cultivate an environment where people are encouraged, supported, and spiritually nurtured.
➤ Praying for your Flock and providing spiritual mentorship: Leaders are prayer warriors for their group, lifting up the needs and challenges of members. You’ll be a model of Christ-like leadership—serving humbly, living authentically, and displaying the love of Jesus to all your Flock members.
➤ Being a point of contact: You’ll stay connected with group members throughout the week, ensuring they feel supported and cared for.
When you step into the role of a Flock Leader, you’re not only guiding others, but you’re also growing yourself. Leadership in this space is about mutual discipleship—learning from your group while teaching them. The experience will sharpen your faith, deepen your relationships, and expand your capacity to serve.
You’ll also be part of a team of leaders who are committed to supporting one another, sharing best practices, and praying together. Flock Leaders receive tailored training, mentorship, and ongoing support to ensure they’re equipped to lead effectively.
You’ll Gain as a Flock Leader / Host...
• Personal growth as you engage in Bible study, group facilitation, and one-on-one mentoring.
• Leadership development, enhancing your ability to lead in all areas of life.
• A strong sense of community, not just within your Flock but with the wider leadership team at the church.
Lambs of Light (Children's Ministry)
As a Flock Leader in Lambs of Light, you will guide the next generation of believers. It's about more than just teaching Bible stories—it's about planting seeds of faith early, cultivating spiritual growth in children, and supporting them as they learn about God's love. Leaders in Lambs of Light nurture young hearts, create a safe and loving space for children, and help them develop a strong foundation in faith.
MavMob (Youth Ministry)
Leading a MavMob group is an exciting and impactful opportunity to mentor high school-aged students in their walk with Christ. You’ll be instrumental in guiding them through their faith journey, helping them navigate challenges, and empowering them to lead others. Small groups in MavMob require a leader who is patient, relatable, and passionate about discipling the next generation.
Fold Nexus (Young Adults Ministry)
For those with a heart for young adults, becoming a leader in Fold Nexus means helping individuals in a crucial stage of life develop their faith and leadership. Flock Leaders in this ministry play a key role in guiding young adults through major life transitions, supporting their growth as leaders, and helping them deepen their understanding of their identity in Christ.
You might wonder: What’s the difference between leading and hosting? While both are essential to church life, they play different roles in building community.
HOSTING: Hosting focuses on creating an inviting, welcoming space for gatherings. Whether it’s in your home or another venue, hosts ensure that everything is prepared—from hospitality to the environment—so that people feel comfortable and open to connection. Hosting involves practical details like food, setup, and logistics, and hosts often collaborate closely with leaders to create a smooth experience for the group. While hosting is a vital part of building community, it doesn’t carry the same spiritual responsibility as leading.
LEADING: Leadership goes beyond logistics and hospitality. Leaders shepherd the group or ministry, guiding the conversation, setting spiritual direction, and helping individuals grow in faith. Leaders also bear the responsibility of pastoral care for the people in their group, offering encouragement, prayer, and wisdom. While leaders often collaborate with hosts to create a warm environment, their focus is on the spiritual growth and overall direction of the group.
